We are certainly ready for the pendulum to swing the other way, back to
genuine values of a civilized society: telling the truth, treating
individuals with respect, and honoring people from different cultures and
walks of life. There's something else that we will want to renew our focus
on as well: thinking for ourselves instead of taking as gospel the words
of the media, pundits, or other "experts" who might owe allegiance to a
corporation or government agency instead of to the public. As long as I am
compiling my wish list, I might as well add this last one: that companies
and corporations respect their employees enough to treat them decently and
pay them a living wage.
If you are unemployed or working at a salary far beneath your skills right
now, don't despair. Although it seems that things may never change, hold
on to an optimistic attitude even while you may be toiling at a job you
don't enjoy or seeking work that can feed your family.
The pendulum will eventually swing from our society's "wrong is right,"
"up is down" attitude. It's only a matter of time. What you do during this
gloomy period right now will be important for your future, so remain
cheerful and optimistic. Continue to be a role model for others as you go
through each day, no matter how difficult your days might be.
Change is in the air. One day soon, you'll see that pendulum start to
swing, and you'll know the time has come when your positive attitude will
have made all the difference in the world.

For those of us who abide by ethics and a sense of fair play, the times we
live in can be very challenging, indeed. From government lies to corporate
shenanigans, it seems that no matter where you turn, the unscrupulous
proof is in the pudding: honesty, fairness, and morality have gone the way
of the dinosaur - at least for now.
